Minty Fresh!

Being a typical female, I love it when I'm right.  And I am right 100% of the time -- even when I'm wrong.  As a designer, I don't believe in following trends, but I still get a little gratification when I see strong evidence that my brand is right on target along with some of the best names on the runway.

It was more than a year ago that I selected my fabrics and color palette for my Spring 2012 "Biohazard Collection" and it's interesting to see how many other people were feeling this fresh minty blue color as well (as seen in the photo below).  Since my collection was titled "Biohazard," I opted for toxic sounding color names and labled this color "Vapor Blue."

Spring 2012 Campaign

I love this color so much (and decided that it looked great with a summer tan) that I have worn this dress twice already!  Granted, I fill it out quite a bit more than the model and I don't consider that a bad thing.  In fact, I have gotten a lot of compliments on the dress and I find that it's very helpful for potential customers to see things on regular people and not always on runway models.

Summer Stripes

I've always been a huge fan of stripes -- black and white, sailor looks and pinstripes.  I find they work best in the spring and summer months because they convey such freshness through the bright colors and the use of white.

Designer Derek Lam's new, somewhat lower priced diffusion line, "10 Crosby" (which is actually the corporate address of the label) showed a small capsule of graphicly bright looks for Spring 2012. Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection...

Nothing's New

I've discussed on this blog about the way fashion repeats and what's old becomes new again.  That's just the cycle and it's up to designers to take the concepts and breathe fresh air into them to make the styles current and modern.  Everybody has their own interpretation.  For example; I recently shared the influence that André Courrèges had on my recent collection....

Apparently, I wasn't the only one who was looking at this great designer's repertoire for inspiration...

Pantone and Stacy Lomman : New York, Choose Orange

screen shot from Pantone's website

And the winner is... drum roll please... Tangerine Tango!!!  Pantone just announced its color of the year and it's bright and cheery, just in time for the holidays.  Now, some people are afraid of such bold hues and feel that they don't look good in orange, but if you select the right pieces and style them the right way (I agree... easier said than done), you can "make it work."

I tend to wear mainly neutrals myself, however, I've been feeling orange for quite a while.  In fact, I did not one, but two posts on the happy color back in June.  I guess I just couldn't get enough because a little later, I included an orange gown in my Spring 2012, Biohazard Collection.  I called my color of choice, Safety Orange, which evokes an entirely different emotion than its relative, Tangerine Tango, but it's still just as lively.

So, taffetadarlings, be bold, be fearless, go forth and conquer.  Wear some orange... you might just like it!

Night of Stars!

I'm a lucky girl!  I was fortunate enough to be invited (by the publisher of Lookonline, Ernest Schmatolla) to cover FGI's 28th Annual Night of Stars on October 27.  You can read the full article on Lookonline's website HERE

with David Byrne

Though it was thrilling to be surrounded by so many fashion greats under one roof, I must admit that for me, the highlight of the evening was meeting Talking Heads' David Byrne.  I'm a long time fan.  He was extremely gracious and I was, well, hopefully not a giddy mess!

Luckily, I was able to squeeze into one of the new Biohazard pieces from my spring 2012 collection and I was thrilled to accessorize the orange gown with some stunning Wendy Brandes earrings.  Like I said, I'm a lucky girl!

Paco Versus Stacy

I've never hidden my admiration for great designers who've inspired me whether they be new on the scene or from generations past.  Paco Rabanne has been a big influence for me ever since I can remember and most of you know that I looked to his metal creations from the sixties when I started working on my debut collection last year, "Precious Metal" (for Spring 2011).  Even though the great Rabanne is alive and kicking, he hasn't been at the helm for a while and the collection has struggled in recent years (including an unsuccessful attempt by Patrick Robinson).  Still, the label has continued to be an important part of the fashion world and I am always excited to see what the they send down the runway each season.  This year, it looks like Rabanne's new designer, Manish Arora, tapped into Stacy Lomman : New York for some inspiration (IF ONLY!) as some of the similarities are uncanny.  At least I can say I did it first!
